Biblical Psychology: A Biblical Hand-book to the Human Mind

Biblical Psychology: A Biblical Hand-book to the Human Mind
By:"Daniel G. McCrillis, Th. D."
Published on 2015-05-18 by Gateway International Publishing

E-book Library:"Education"

It has become common knowledge that Christianity in America is in a crisis. While the answers to our problems are frequently expressed through external remedies – another addiction program, self-help teaching, ministry adventure, 100 ways to…, etc., – the average state of the inner man (I Tim. 4:8) is starving. As Christianity chomps at the bit to fix these peripheral issues, man’s most inner being seldom receives the needed attention to maximize his life’s potential. A basic education in Biblical Psychology will bring the human mind out of the shadows and into the forefront of contextual and hermeneutical criticism. The truths found within Biblical Psychology are just as powerful today as ever. Surprisingly, 1/4 of the New Testament directly or indirectly refers to the mind, making its subject more than relevant. Although it is believed that the mind is the most powerful machine in the world, it is impossible to tap into its energy without understanding the purposes of its many intellectual properties: attention, conscience, emotion, heart, imagination, knowledge, memory, opinions, perception, reason, understanding, and thought. • What is logic? How do I use my logic and reasoning for good? • What is my conscience? How do I keep a good conscience? • What is the purpose of my memory? How do I delete bad files from my mind’s memory and upload the right files? • How can I get control of my out-of-control mind? • Do my feelings ever lie? Can I trust my feelings? • In what part of the mind does depression exist, and can I beat it without medication? • What is the purpose of knowledge? • How do I know if my perception is right or wrong? • What is the purpose of my imagination? • What is the most practical way to have a positive attitude? • How do I overcome my addictive behavior, fear, inferiority complex, negativity, etc.? In this book, we will ask and answer these questions and overcome one of humanity’s great dilemmas, as we study the mind from a biblical perspective. We will also bring to the table, the mind’s great riddles: what it is, how it works, what its safe guards are, and how to use it rightly. Finally, we will discover that the mental logistics found within the Bible are the very answer to the Christian’s reformation (Rom. 12:1-2) and obtaining the power of God (II Tim. 1:7) in his life! A Must for Everyone!

Moral Psychology and Human Agency

Moral Psychology and Human Agency
By:"Justin D'Arms","Daniel Jacobson"
Published on 2014-11-06 by OUP Oxford

E-book Library:"Philosophy"

These ten original essays examine the moral and philosophical implications of developments in the science of ethics, the growing movement that seeks to use recent empirical findings to answer long-standing ethical questions. Efforts to make moral psychology a thoroughly empirical discipline have divided philosophers along methodological fault lines, isolating discussions that will profit more from intellectual exchange. This volume takes an even-handed approach, including essays from advocates of empirical ethics as well as those who are sceptical of some of its central claims. Some of these essays make novel use of empirical findings to develop philosophical research programs regarding such crucial moral phenomena as desire, emotion, and memory. Others bring new critical scrutiny to bear on some of the most influential proposals of the empirical ethics movement, including the claim that evolution undermines moral realism, the effort to recruit a dual-process model of the mind to support consequentialism against other moral theories, and the claim that ordinary evaluative judgments are seldom if ever sensitive to reasons, because moral reasoning is merely the post hoc rationalization of unthinking emotional response.

Research in Science Education in Europe

Research in Science Education in Europe
By:"M. Bandiera"
Published on 1999-04-30 by Springer Science & Business Media

E-book Library:"Education"

This volume gives an account of the most recent results of research in science education in Europe, based on a selection of papers presented at the First Conference of the European Science Education Research Association held in Rome at the end of 1997. It is an overview of the trends in the different disciplines, such as biology, chemistry, earth science, and physics, as well as in more general subjects, such as science and society, teachers' training, teaching and learning. Compared to the real situation it is a `balanced' picture, adjusted to include similar contributions from all European countries and different fields of research in science education. Consequently, it offers a comparative view of the research activity in countries with different traditions. In these times when all countries have to face problems arising from some inadequacies of their own education systems in relation to the changes that are occurring both at social and technological levels, this book represents a rich and diverse source which can be a starting point of action and reflection for the main actors in the educational system: researchers, policy-makers and teachers.

Communicating Science in Social Contexts

Communicating Science in Social Contexts

Published on 2008-07-15 by Springer Science & Business Media

E-book Library:"Language Arts & Disciplines"

Science communication, as a multidisciplinary field, has developed remarkably in recent years. It is now a distinct and exceedingly dynamic science that melds theoretical approaches with practical experience. Formerly well-established theoretical models now seem out of step with the social reality of the sciences, and the previously clear-cut delineations and interacting domains between cultural fields have blurred. Communicating Science in Social Contexts examines that shift, which itself depicts a profound recomposition of knowledge fields, activities and dissemination practices, and the value accorded to science and technology. Communicating Science in Social Contexts is the product of long-term effort that would not have been possible without the research and expertise of the Public Communication of Science and Technology (PCST) Network and the editors. For nearly 20 years, this informal, international network has been organizing events and forums for discussion of the public communication of science.

From Energy to Information

From Energy to Information
By:"Bruce Clarke","Linda Dalrymple Henderson"
Published on 2002 by Stanford University Press

E-book Library:"Art"

This book offers an innovative examination of the interactions of science and technology, art, and literature in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Scholars in the history of art, literature, architecture, computer science, and media studies focus on five historical themes in the transition from energy to information: thermodynamics, electromagnetism, inscription, information theory, and virtuality. Different disciplines are grouped around specific moments in the history of science and technology in order to sample the modes of representation invented or adapted by each field in response to newly developed scientific concepts and models. By placing literary fictions and the plastic arts in relation to the transition from the era of energy to the information age, this collection of essays discovers unexpected resonances among concepts and materials not previously brought into juxtaposition. In particular, it demonstrates the crucial centrality of the theme of energy in modernist discourse. Overall, the volume develops the scientific and technological side of the shift from modernism to postmodernism in terms of the conceptual crossover from energy to information. The contributors are Christoph Asendorf, Ian F. A. Bell, Robert Brain, Bruce Clarke, Charlotte Douglas, N. Katherine Hayes, Linda Dalrymple Henderson, Bruce J. Hunt, Douglas Kahn, Timothy Lenoir, W. J. T. Mitchell, Marcos Novak, Edward Shanken, Richard Shiff, David Tomas, Sha Xin Wei, and Norton Wise.

Life Reimagined

Life Reimagined
By:"Barbara Bradley Hagerty"
Published on 2016-03-15 by Penguin

E-book Library:"Family & Relationships"

A dynamic and inspiring exploration of the new science that is redrawing the future for people in their forties, fifties, and sixties for the better—and for good. There’s no such thing as an inevitable midlife crisis, Barbara Bradley Hagerty writes in this provocative, hopeful book. It’s a myth, an illusion. New scientific research explodes the fable that midlife is a time when things start to go downhill for everybody. In fact, midlife can be a great new adventure, when you can embrace fresh possibilities, purposes, and pleasures. In Life Reimagined, Hagerty explains that midlife is about renewal: It’s the time to renegotiate your purpose, refocus your relationships, and transform the way you think about the world and yourself. Drawing from emerging information in neurology, psychology, biology, genetics, and sociology—as well as her own story of midlife transformation—Hagerty redraws the map for people in midlife and plots a new course forward in understanding our health, our relationships, even our futures. Published on 2008-03-11 by Oxford University Press, USA

E-book Library:"Psychology"

Interdisciplinary research now receives a great deal of attention because of the rich, creative contributions it often generates. But a host of factors--institutional, interpersonal and intellectual--also make a daunting challenge of conducting research outside one's usual domain. This newly updated and revised edition of Interdisciplinary Research is a substantive and practical guide to the most effective avenues for collaborative and integrative research in the social, behavioral, and bio-medical sciences. It provides answers to questions such as what is the best way to conduct interdisciplinary research on topics related to human health, behavior, and development? Which are the most successful interdisciplinary research programs in these areas? How do you identify appropriate collaborators? How do you find dedicated funding streams? How do you overcome peer-review and publishing challenges? This is the only book that provides answers directly from researchers who have carried out successful interdisciplinary programs. The editors give a concise of account of the lessons that can be taken from the book, and then present a series of case studies that reveal the most successful interdisciplinary research programs. These programs provide a variety of models of how best to undertake interdisciplinary research. Each of the chapter authors has carried out innovative, collaborative programs, and all give compelling accounts of the benefits of interdisciplinary research and the central strategies required to achieve them.
